Savings bond tax deferral strategy

If you own Series E
or EE savings bonds, time is running out on a tax break that’s been
around for a long time. After August 31, 2004, you won’t be able to
defer tax on Series E or EE bonds by exchanging them for Series HH
bonds. Series HH bonds won’t be issued after that date.
If you want to
exchange bonds you own, you’ll have to do it by August 31. In making
your decision, consider such factors as the tax due on the Series E/EE
bonds and the interest rate you would earn on the HH bonds.
